Today’s cyclodextrin is my next cyclodextrin patent.

I have been advocating for improved solutions for agriculture formulations for a long time.

Cyclodextrins can help improve the biological activity and uptake of pesticides and insecticides, improve their penetration, reduce their applied dose (and burden on the environment) and even achieve controlled release of these agents.

This paper by Horváti Kata & Chiara Bellini et al is about formulating lipopeptides.

Formulation with the randomly methylated α-cyclodextrin (RAMEA) and the sulfobutylether-β-cyclodextrin (SBECD) has resulted in the production of ultralow-sized molecular dispersion systems and reduced lipopeptide toxicity without compromising its antimicrobial activity.

Inhibitor inclusion complex nitrogen fertilizer compositions

Today’s cyclodextrin is about an agricultural application from SABIC.

In this invention, Sabic uses cyclodextrin for fertilizing via encapsulating urease inhibitors in a solidified nitrogen fertilizer melt.

The inhibitor (e.g., a nitrification and/or urease inhibitor), when complexed with the cyclodextrin, can be thermally stable at temperatures (e.g., 140 °C or more) exceeding the melt temperature of the nitrogen fertilizer. This can be advantageous in that the complexes can be contacted with and dispersed throughout molten nitrogen fertilizer with reduced, minimal, or no degradation of the inhibitors.

Update Bridion Prescribing Information for pediatric patients from birth to less than 2 years of age

Merck submitted supplemental new drug application which was received on June 12, 2024 by FDA for Bridion® (sugammadex) injection.

This request proposed to update Bridion Prescribing Information for reversal of neuromuscular blockade induced by rocuronium bromide and vecuronium bromide in pediatric patients from birth to less than 2 years of age.

Followed by Merck’s request, Bridion injection has been approved on December 12, 2024 for use in pediatric patients ages from birth to less than 2 years old for reversal of neuromuscular blockage induced by rocuronium bromide and vecuronium bromide.

Nasal delivery with cyclodextrins

The development project of Università di Pavia is a fantastic example of combining excipients.

Mucoadhesive and thermo-responsive in situ gelling systems were developed for nasal delivery, using hydrophobically-modified hydroxypropyl-methyl cellulose (Sangelose, SG) and beta-cyclodextrin (β-CD) derivatives, for preventing viral respiratory infections.

Today, we became 3 years old

So officially nursery is over, we are almost fully grown now and can start kindergarten.

No more diapers needed and we can use the scissors too.
